Circus Peanuts in Lucky Charms?

While researching Circus Peanuts candy for this blog I was surprised to discover that Circus Peanuts were the inspiration of  Lucky Charms Cereal in 1963!  General Mills used shavings of Circus Peanuts to enhance the cereal and Lucky Charms was born.

The peanut shaped gummy candy was actually invented in the 16th century.  Originally it
was produced as an orange flavor only available seasonally due to the lack of packaging available to preserve it.  It was sold as penny candy and available in most five and dime stores.  It was made available year round in the 1940s due to innovation in confectionery and polyethylene packaging.

Through the years circus peanut candy has been made in a variety of colors and flavors although the orange is the tried and true favorite.  I would tend to agree. :)

October 2010 - Mmmmmmmm, bacon candy more!

We have a small sign in our window that I change occasionally to highlight different items we have in the store.  The "MMMMMMMMM....Bacon Candy" sign has been the biggest draw thus far.

We have had tons of people walk in and immediately ask "Where's the Bacon?".  Our response is to point them in the direction of this display and talk them through our bacon stuff.

Shown here are the following:

  • Bacon Band Aids - They look like a strip of uncooked bacon..very realistic looking!
  • Bacon Beans - Bacon flavored bean candies, in a tin shaped like, what else, a strip of bacon
  • Bacon Lip Balm - Bacon flavored lip balm
  • Bacon Toothpicks - Bacon flavored toothpicks to pick the bacon out of your teeth
  • Bacon Air Freshner - Shaped like 3 pieces of bacon and scented like bacon
  • Bacon Dental Floss - If you have more time on your hands and still have bacon in your teeth, use this for a healthier mouth!
  • Man Bait - Maple Bacon Suckers - Maple flavored suckers with a bit of salty bacon inside (these are my favorite, reminds me of when you have bacon that falls into the syrup from your pancakes..mmmm)
  • BaconPop - Bacon Flavored Popcorn!
  • Bacon Cheddar Salt - Add Bacon flavor to ANYTHING!
  • Bacon Candle - Thats right, a candle that scented like bacon
  • Bacon Gift Set - Filled with diffferent varieties of BaconSalt and includes a jar of Baconnaise, bacon flavored mayonnaise, and bacon lip balm
We also will have Bacon Mints, Gummy Bacon and a new variety of BaconPop in store mid November, perfect for the bacon lover's stocking at Christmas!

Got ZOTZ? Its Where the Fizz Is!

Zotz Fizz Power Candy

The original Zotz Fizz Power Candies were introduced in 1968. Within one year they had quickly become the hottest selling kids candy in the business. What made Zotz unique was the flavored fizz center which everyone found crazy & irresistible. Zotz is a hard candy manufactured by G.B. Ambrosoli. G.B. Ambrosoli is wholly owned and operated by the Ambrosoli family, in Como Italy, since 1920.

With new packages Zotz are sure to attract a whole new generation of Zotz customers. The original Zotz customers (like me) now have children of their own, and remain loyal consumers when they can find them. There are two different boxes of Zotz flavors; One box contains Lemon, Orange and Grape, the other has Cherry, Watermelon and Sour Apple.

From 1968 to today Zotz continues to be the best selling fizz powder candy in the United States.

We currently have all 6 flavors in our Candy Shop in Downtown Carrollton (Dallas).

Stop by and see where the fizz is!

British / UK Candy - Smarties

Not to be mistaken with the tart pastel colored rolled candy that we remember from our American youth, Nestle Smarties are a favourite (See that? I used the Canadian/British spelling) of our British & Candian friends.

Nestle Smarties are a candy covered chocolate candies that have been around for a heck of a long time.  Smarties have been around since at least 1882!  These candies are oblate shaped (not round, not oval, not even a sphere) chocolate "beans".  Originally made by Rowntree they were marketed as just that, "Chocolate Beans", then "Smarties Chocolate Beans" in 1977.

Nestle has been making them in Canada since 1918 but their largest manufacturing facility is based in Germany, supporting the UK demand.

Unlike the American M&M, Smarties have more variety, coming in 8 different colors and are packaged in a cardboard box in a hexagonal shape.  This is the variety we carry in our Dallas Candy Shop.

These are a great addition to our British Candy Section .. seen in the center on the third shelf.  Stop by and get smarter!
