Dr. Browns Celery Tonic was first produced in 1868 in Brooklyn, NY. Served in delicatessens starting in 1869. The flavor is derived from celery seed extract and tastes reminiscent of ginger ale but with a strong celery flavor. Cel-Ray was so popular in the 1930's within the Jewish community, it was dubbed "Jewish Champange".
